As most people in Japan know, most convenience stores carry their favorite snacks, drinks, and other more “adult” items such as “adult magazines”. Well, that will soon be changing at two of the biggest convenience store chains in Japan: Seven-Eleven and Lawson.
Seven-Eleven was the first to announce that they will be discontinuing the sale of “adult magazines” in their stores by the end of August 2019, in an effort to make their store more appeal-able and comfortable for foreigners ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and other major events. Soon after, Lawson also announced the change to their stores, which they hope to complete by the end of August 2019.
Ironically, another one of the big convenience store chains, Family Mart, has not officially announced that they will also discontinue selling “adult magazines”.
