Good morning everyone!
This week we will be taking a look at the Sagano Romatic Train in Kyoto, Japan.
The Sagano Romantic Train (Sagano Scenic Railway) is a sightseeing train that runs from Sagano Torokko Station to Kameoka Torokko Station along the Hozugawa River in Kyoto, Japan. The natural beauty of this area is amazing, as you get to see the pink Cherry Blossoms in the Spring, beautiful green trees in the Summer, bright orange maple leaves in the Fall, and the white snow in the Winter.
Enjoy this short trip on the Sagano Romantic Train, and make sure to look for the Cherry Blossoms that were falling like snow! And make sure to read-on to learn more about this train.
The entire train ride takes about 25 minutes, as you leisurely travel on an old-fashioned diesel locomotive. The sound and feel of the locomotive train will transport you back in time, and really adds to the romantic nature of the trip.
The train consists of five cars decked with yellow wooden seats, which are surprisingly comfortable and also allow you to get very close to your loved ones. It is a “romantic” train ride after all. Here is a pro-tip, the Sagano Romantic Train has a one very special sightseeing car called the “Rich car”, which is an “open-air”, window-less car that allows you to experience the sun and wind on your face as you travel. And don’t worry, despite the name, it doesn’t cost any additional money to grab a seat on the “Rich” car—but make sure to reserve a seat in this car early, as all seats on the train are by reservation.
Tickets for the train cost about $5.49 (620 yen) one-way, and you can purchase them at Saga Torokko Station or online here: Sagano Romantic Train Tickets But again, make sure to buy them early! Also, note that the train is closed from about December 30, 2018 through February 28, 2019.
You can also find a train museum as Saga Torokko Station, but entry will cost you an additional fee. However, the station always has a cool diorama that you can see for free. When I visited, they had a special My Neighbor Totoro diorama!
So if you want to enjoy the Sagano Romantic Train, just head to Saga Torokko Station located next to the JR Saga-Arashiyama Station—just one station away from Kyoto Station at a cost of about $2.12 (240 yen). I hope you and your significant other have a romantic time!
See you soon!
